Designing International Success in Uncertain Environments
Designing International Success in Uncertain Environments
My research focuses on how individuals and organisations act under conditions of uncertainty and complexity in international and cross-cultural contexts. Drawing on Effectuation theory (Sarasvathy, 2001, 2008) and the International Opportunity perspective (Mainela, 2014, 2018; Tabares, 2020), my work bridges academic theory and managerial practice in international management and entrepreneurship.
My doctoral research explored entrepreneurial methods and actions in internationalisation processes, with a particular emphasis on effectual design actions. The applied component of my research resulted in a practical How-to-Internationalise action guideline for architectural and civil engineering service firms seeking to initiate and scale cross-border activities in uncertain and unpredictable business environments.
My dissertation, titled “Effectual Design Blueprints for Success: Internationalising Swiss and Thai Architectural and Civil Engineering Service SMEs – A Qualitative Cross-Country Study,” offers empirically grounded insights for both scholars and practitioners. I also hold an Executive MBA from the University of Applied Sciences of Grisons, Switzerland (2017), and a Master of Advanced Studies from the University of Applied Sciences and Arts Northwestern Switzerland (2011).
